Synopsis
A top ballroom dancer pairs with a plain, left-footed local girl when his maverick style earns him the disdain of his more conventionally-minded colleagues. Together, the team gives it their all and makes dreams of the National Championship title come true.

Like I mentioned last week, this week the biggest release on the home market is Silver Linings Playbook, while there are a couple other sizable releases, like Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season Three on Blu-ray. However, you quickly run into filler as you look down the list. Fortunately, Silver Linings Playbook is such a great movie that the Blu-ray Combo Pack would be Pick of the Week material, even during a busy week. It is not the only contender for that title. Even sight unseen, Kyatto-Ninden Teyandee Complete Series Megaset comes a close second, while Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season Three earned that title last week.

Baz Luhrmann started in theater but moved into movies with Strictly Ballroom. This film was made just over 20 years ago for $3 million, but became a smash hit in its native Australia earning $21.76 million. At the time, that was the third best box office in Australia for a homegrown hit, behind the first two Crocodile Dundee films. It also did quite well here earning $11.74 million, which is great for a limited release. A few years back, it was given a special edition DVD release, but this week it is coming out on Blu-ray for the first time. Has the film aged well? And is the Blu-ray worth picking up?

The final installment of our Holiday Gift Guide is here. Part I dealt with first run releases, Part II dealt with box sets and TV on DVD releases, while Part III dealt with limited releases, foreign releases, and classics. This week we look at everything else, including a few that I missed before. This will be far less organized than previous installments, which is saying something. However, at this point, with just a week until Christmas, we are getting close to panic levels when it comes to shopping.
