DVD Releases for June 6, 2006

June 5th, 2006

It's like the week of the Western with that genre making appearances in nearly every category, Special Edition, Box Sets, TV on DVD. But while there are certainly some that were in the running for DVD Pick of the Week, (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - 2-Disc Collector's Edition, for instance), it was a limited release that is the DVD Pick of the Week. And that film is Sarah Silverman - Jesus is Magic - Buy from Amazon, but I fully admit my pro-Sarah Silverman bias has something to do with this decision. More...

Contest - Heartbreakers

May 29th, 2006

Our contest this week started a little later than usually because of the Memorial Day holiday. Prizes this week include the DVD for The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things and a The Break-Up prize pack. To win you just need to predict the opening weekend box office of The Break-Up. Whoever comes closest to predicting the opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win The Break-Up prize pack. On the other hand, whoever comes closest to predicting the opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things on DVD. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

Another Slow Weekend on the Per Theatre Charts

March 14th, 2006

For the second weekend in a row, no film was able to top the $10,000 mark. Ask the Dust came the closest with nearly $70,000 in 7 theatres for a per theatre average of $9,826.

Other new limited releases to chart in the top ten were The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things with a studio estimate of $10,000 in 2 theatres (final box office numbers should be in by the end of the week), and Duck Season with $25,000 in 6 theatres for an average of $4,110. On the other hand, Evil struggled with $2,448 in its lone theatre. More...

Limited Releases: Getting Your Ducks In A Row

March 10th, 2006

The weekend after Oscars should be a tough time to release a film with the Oscar winners trying to expand to take advantage of the Oscar Bounce. But with only two or three of the winners in any position to make a movie this weekend, the new limited releases have a chance to make an impact of their own. More...

Movie Website Updates for March 3 - March 9

March 9th, 2006

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. This week's winner was one of last week's best sites, She's the Man - Official Site, which added a lot of content this week including some old stuff that was off site for previous weeks. More...

Contest - Box Office Prediction - Hearts and Hills

March 6th, 2006

This Friday marks the release of the daring and provocative The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things, and it is the first film featured in our new weekly box office prediction contest. The winner will receive a T-shirt, poster, and a pair of underwear. (We have a picture of a model wearing said T-shirt and underwear, which we would post, but it would probably melt the server.) Since that film is taking the limited release route, we will be basing this contest on The Hills Have Eyes, which is also opening this Friday. All you have to do to enter is predict the opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday) gross for the movie. The winner will be whoever's prediction is closest to the actual result without going over. Entries must be received by 10am, Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...
