Synopsis
An intimate portrait and a vibrant celebration of Diana Vreeland, one of the most influential women of the 20th century, an enduring icon whose influence changed the face of fashion, beauty, art, publishing and culture forever. During her fifty year reign as the "Empress of Fashion," she launched Twiggy, advised Jackie O and coined some of fashion's most eloquent proverbs such as "the bikini is the biggest thing since the atom bomb." She was the fashion editor of Harper's Bazaar where she worked for 25 years before becoming editor-in-chief of Vogue followed by a remarkable stint at the Met's Costume Institute where she helped popularize its historical collections.

The Gatekeepers led the way on the per theater chart with an average of $22,226 in three theaters. The only other member of the $10,000 club was Koch with an average of $17,598 in two. Both films should continue to do well on the art house circuit, but as documentaries, I doubt they will expand significantly.

It's not a bad week as far as first run releases go with three of them appearing high on the chart. This includes Flight, which has earned some major nominations during Awards Season. However, it is a shallow week, as there are also Direct-to-DVD kids releases and even a workout DVD in the top ten, according to Amazon.com. Leading the way is Peter Pan on Blu-ray Combo Pack or Blu-ray Combo Pack with Storybook App. This is not only the best-selling Blu-ray of the week, but it is also the best and is the Pick of the Week.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower easily topped the per theater chart with an average of $57,090 in four theaters. This combined with its 81% positive reviews suggests a potential for significant expansion and long legs. Diana Vreeland - The Eye Has to Travel was also strong with an average of $21,233. This is an excellent start, but documentaries rarely expand significantly beyond the art house circuit. Occupy Unmasked just managed to top $10,000 on the per theater chart with an average of $10,238 in four theaters.

It's another busy week for limited releases. However, of the nine films on this week's list, only two of them are earning overwhelmingly positive reviews, and both of them are documentaries. There is one film that is earning great reviews and is also generating a lot of buzz, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. If that film isn't the biggest hit on this week's list, I would be shocked.
