Weekend predictions: Spider-Man sets sights on $100-million debut

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is looking at a $100-million opening, based on the pedigree of the franchise and strong Thursday previews. The Boogeyman is hoping to hit with some Summertime horror counter-programming.
Here’s how the model looked at Across the Spider-Verse coming into the weekend:
It’s actually an accident of data that meant that the whole Spider-Man franchise was used as a point of comparison, instead of the previous Spider-Verse movie. I think that actually worked out to give a pretty good prediction, which is confirmed by the Thursday preview numbers:
Just like Ariel last weekend, Miles will have to wait a while to know whether the $100-million barrier will be broken on debut.

After a good Memorial Day weekend, it looks as though we could see an “up” weekend, based on a 3-day-weekend to 3-day-weekend comparison. That counts as a victory, and starts June off with a bang.
