Theater counts: Spider-Man once again leads the pack entering its seventh week in theaters
January 27, 2022
It is becoming ever more difficult to remember a time when Spider-Man: No Way Home wasn’t at the top of the box office charts, or the theater count list. This could very well change next weekend with the arrival of Jackass Forever, and Moonfall, but for at least one more week, the webbed superhero can revel in the top spot. As it sits at the end of Thursday, No Way Home has spun over $723 million domestically and is nearing the $1 billion mark overseas.
This week will be a slow one for theaters as new limited releases monopolize the movie scene. That said, there will be options for most movie buffs. The largest of these limited releases is Clean, the newest feature from IFC Films. The thriller stars Adrien Brody as a garbage man who, tormented by his past life, attempts a life of quiet redemption, but is forced to reconcile with the violence of his past when he becomes the target of a local crime boss. The Paul Solet-directed film will debut in 258 locations.
Another film hitting theaters this week is the Tim Roth/Charlotte Gainsbourg thriller, Sundown. The latest from Bleecker Street is set to arrive in six theaters. Not to be overlooked is a one-night-only, Sunday-evening special event, as The Beatles Get Back: Rooftop Concert will play exclusively on 67 IMAX locations across North America.
As previously mentioned, two wide releases make their way into cinemas next weekend. Sci-fi action film Moonfall is the latest from Lionsgate which stars Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and John Bradley as two astronauts and a conspiracy theorist who work together to attempt to avert disaster, only to discover that the moon is not what it seems. After an eight year hiatus, Jackass Forever is back in theaters. The comedy-reality film will reunite the cast from the previous films, along with a bevy of new cast members. Jackass Forever looks to arrive in an estimated 3,500 locations per Paramount’s early reports.
