Streaming Releases: More than One Streaming Release Worth Checking Out

There are some interesting choices on streaming services this weekend, to please a wide variety of people. Families should enjoy The One and Only Ivan or The Sleepover. If you are into old-school video games, then High Score: Season One should be right up your alley. Finally, Lucifer: Season Five, Part 1 should be a fun time.

A teenage romance that is earning mixed reviews with many critics complaining that it doesn’t do enough to stand out in a crowded genre. Then again, the target audience is too young to have read enough similar material to be tired of the clichés, so it will probably work with them.

This film is about a zoo at the center of a failing mall. … Is that a real thing? I’ve never seen anything like that, but it does sound kind of “American.” There are only three movies debuting on streaming services this week that are earning any real buzz and all three of them are aimed at kids or teens. Neither of the kids movies are earning amazing reviews, while none of them are bad either. Of the two, this one is the better. I think both will entertain their target audiences, but this one has a better chance of entertaining parents as well.

A pair of siblings, Clancy and Kevin discover that their seemingly normal stay-at-home mom, Margot, is actually a former high-end thief in the witness protection program. When both their mom and dad are kidnapped and forced to pull one last job, the siblings must team up to rescue their parents. The general setup for this movie is far from unique, but the execution is good enough that it should entertain its target audience.

A documentary series about the classic age of video games. It will obviously appeal most to those who have some nostalgia for the era, but it should have some appeal to those who are less familiar with the history of video games.

This was supposed to be the last season of this show, but it is getting a sixth one as well, perhaps more if it does well. It is a fun show, so I do hope it continues.
