Streaming Releases: Kiss and Tell
July 24, 2020
There is exactly one release on this week’s list that is earning both lots of pre-release buzz and positive reviews and that’s Radioactive. Unfortunately, it looks like it is going to be overshadowed by The Kissing Booth 2. That film isn’t a critical darling, but will likely find a large audience on Netflix.
Movies:
Animal Crackers
The Kissing Booth 2
Radioactive
Jack Whitehall: I'm Only Joking
Fear City: New York vs The Mafia - Season One
Last Chance U: Season Five - Netflix
Movies
Netflix
Development Hell barely begins to describe what this film went through as it tried to get made and released. In fact, it isn’t impossible that the film gets pulled from Netflix because of a lawsuit that is currently the in courts. The reviews are good, but not great, so if you have kids of the right age, they should enjoy it, but it isn’t good enough to entice many adult fans of animation.
Netflix
A teen romantic comedy based on the book by Beth Reekles. The film’s predecessor was one of the biggest Netflix original movies of all time, despite its less than stellar critical reception. It was no surprise that the movie got a sequel, but I am surprised how hotly anticipated it is. Granted, the reviews are better this time around, and the pandemic means there are no Hollywood blockbusters to compete with.
Amazon Prime
Rosamund Pike stars as Marie Curie in this biopic. Had the film come out in the fall, I would be calling it busted Oscar-bait. The movie checks all of the right boxes to win over Awards Season voters; however, its reviews are good, but not great. It is worth checking out, but it is not something I would subscribe to Amazon Prime just to get. Fortunately, a lot of people have Amazon Prime just for the free shipping, so that’s not an issue.
Other Movies
Netflix
Jim Gaffigan: The Pale Tourist
Amazon Prime or Amazon Prime (4K Ultra HD)
Ofrenda a la tormenta - Netflix
TV Shows
Netflix
The only TV show on this week’s list with more than a handful of reviews and those reviews are merely good and not great. If you are into true crime shows, and that’s a popular genre, then it is worth checking out. However, there’s also a lot of direct competition, so I don’t know if many people who start the show will continue with it.
Other TV Shows
Love on the Spectrum: Season One - Netflix
Rogue Trip: Season One - Disney+
