DEG Watched at Home Chart: Reruns Dominate Home Viewing
May 7, 2020
For the third week in a row, the top five films on the DEG Watched at Home Chart remain the same, although there are changes in the order from last week. Bad Boys for Life remained in first place. Meanwhile, Sony remained the only studio with more than one entry in the in the top five and tied with Disney / Fox with five in the top twenty.
Sonic the Hedgehog had the fastest growth in the top twenty, rising two spots to second place. Also rising two spots was Little Women, which rose to ninth place, and Like a Boss, which hit 12th. Underwater had the sharpest decline of just three spots to eleventh. It was a very static week on the chart.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker slipped a spot to third, perhaps because it hit Disney Plus, whose viewership figures aren’t included in the analysis. Even so, it could stick around for a while.
Jumanji: The Next Level managed to move up from fifth to fourth place this week. While it opened in 2019, it earned much of its box office in 2020 and stands in sixth place on the 2020 domestic chart just based on its box office from January 1st onwards.
This left The Gentlemen in fifth place. It was an inexpensive movie to make and has likely already earned a solid profit for STX Entertainment.
There were only one truly new release on this week’s chart. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge debuted in 17th place, which is impressive for a film that never had a scheduled theatrical release. That said, even though Frozen II hit Disney+, it reentered the chart in 19th place.
