Limited and VOD Releases: These Releases will Hold Your Attention

Never Look Away

It is not a good week for limited releases. The biggest release is BlacKkKlansman, which is getting a re-release this week. King of Thieves is the biggest new release in terms of buzz, but The Image Book and Never Look Away have better reviews.

The Image Book - Reviews
 A documentary by Jean-Luc Godard about film history and how it needs to adapt to the political environment. The reviews are excellent, but it is probably too avant garde to find a large audience in limited release.

In Like Flynn - Reviews
 An adventure film about the pre-celebrity life of Errol Flynn. It sounds like an interesting movie, but the reviews are mixed, so something went wrong.

The Invisibles - Reviews
 A drama about the real-life story of Jews who managed to hide in plain sight in Berlin during the heart of World War II. There are not a lot of reviews and the ones on Rotten Tomatoes are not strong enough to suggest box office success in limited release.

King of Thieves - Reviews
 Video on Demand
This is arguably the biggest release in terms of buzz, but sadly the reviews are bad and it is playing on VOD, so its box office chances are close to zero.

Never Look Away - Reviews
 We talked about this movie when it had its Oscar qualifying run. The film did earn an Oscar nomination, so perhaps it will do well in limited release.

Tito and the Birds - Reviews
 An animated film from Brazil about a 10-year old boy trying to find a cure for a pandemic affecting the people of Brazil. The reviews are great, but animated films rarely do well in limited release. Maybe if it had earned an Oscar nomination it would have found an audience, but without one, it will have to wait until the home market to find an audience.

There are three secondary VOD releases this week and none of them are earning good reviews.
