Theater Averages: Dog Days Carry it to a Second Win

For the second weekend in a row, Isle of Dogs led the way on the theater average chart with $17,839 in 165 theaters. The only other film to reach the $10,000 mark was Love After Love, which pulled in $11,290 in its lone theater.

There were many other new limited releases, some of which did rather well. For example, Gemini earned an average of $7,994 in four theaters. The Gardener was relatively close behind with $6,298 in its one theater. Baaghi 2 opened with $651,000 in 123 theaters for an average of $5,290. This is rather good for a Bollywood release. The Great Silence was mixed with an average of $4,378 in two theaters. Finding Your Feet was right behind with an average of $4,295 in 14 theaters.

There were a trio of films that missed the Mendoza Line. The one that came the closest was The Last Movie Star, which earned an average of $1,890 in two theaters. However, the film is already on DVD, so missing the Mendoza Line isn’t a real problem. Outside In doesn’t have that excuse and it struggled even more with an average of $1,571 in 9 theaters. The China Hustle was also playing on VOD, so its average of $1,290 in 20 theaters is not significant.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Raid got to $1 million, barely.
  • Likewise, The Leisure Seeker also hit $1 million this weekend. It has a slim shot at $2 million.
  • 7 Days in Entebbe hit $3 million before the weekend, but that’s likely as far as it will go.
  • The Death of Stalin made it to $3 million over the weekend and it was nearly at $4 million by the end of the weekend. Its theater average is low enough that it likely won’t expand significantly from now on, but it should still hit at least a couple more milestones.
  • Isle of Dogs managed to get all the way to $6 million after just two weeks of release. It will keep expanding for the next couple of weeks.
