Theater Averages: Big Sick has a Very Healthy $84,315 Opening
June 28, 2017
Two limited releases that came out this past weekend topped the previous theater average record for 2017. The Big Sick earned an average of $84,315 in five theaters, which bodes well for its planned wide expansion in a couple of weeks. The Beguiled was next with an average of $57,323 in four theaters. Both of these are well ahead of the $41,508 average Beauty and the Beast earned during its opening weekend. The only other film in the $10,000 club was the overall number one film, Transformers: The Last Knight, which earned an average of $10,981.
None of the rest of the new limited releases came close to the $5,000 mark. In Pursuit of Silence came the closest with $5,141 in its lone theater. My Journey Through French Cinema earned an average of $3,954 in three theaters. Next up was a logjam with four films within $400 of each other. The Ornithologist led this group with an average of $3,066 in two theaters. The Bad Batch was next with an average of $2,970 in 30 theaters. This isn’t bad for a film playing on Video on Demand. Food Evolution opened with $2,851 in one theater, while Tubelight managed an average of $2,752 in over 300. Finally, A Beginner’s Guide to Snuff missed the Mendoza Line with an average of just $1,735 in three theaters.
