2015 Awards Season: Oscar Highlight: Best Lead Actress

With our annual Oscar Prediction contest underway, now is the best time to look at the nominees and try and figure out who the favorites are and which films should just feel honored to be nominated. The Best Lead Actress is not generating a lot of buzz, but one actress has been constantly winning and is the overwhelming favorite.

(Note: All previous awards listed are only for acting and not other categories. However, they are for supporting and lead acting. Previous awards and nominations are not for TV roles, on the other hand. )

Best Supporting Actress

Cate Blanchett for Carol

Notes: If Cate Blanchett had never won an Oscar in the past, then she would likely be the favorite here. As it is, she's won twice in her previous six nominations, so it is unlikely she will win her third Oscar this year. She's not even 50, so she could get another Oscar before she retires.

Notes: Jennifer Lawrence is likely hoping she doesn't win this Oscar, because it could cause a backlash. The overall reviews are not good and she already has one Oscar and plenty of other wins.

Notes: Charlotte Rampling has been acting for for 50 years, but she's never won an Oscar. Perhaps if she had been nominated for a few but never won, she could have won this year as a Lifetime Achievement award. That's not the case, so her chances of winning are very limited.

Saoirse Ronan for Brooklyn

Conclusion: Brie Larson has won all of the previous major awards and should have no trouble adding an Oscar to her list of wins this year. Strangely, she's still not getting a lot of buzz for this.
