Per Theater Chart: Profitable Start for Prophet
August 12, 2015
There were only two films in the $10,000 club on the per theater chart, but while it wasn't a crowded field this week, the two films had nearly identical averages. Kahlil Gibran's the Prophet led the way with an average of $13,718 in two theaters. Meanwhile, The Diary of a Teenage Girl was right behind with an average of $13,084 in four.
There rest of the new limited releases ranged from good to abysmal. Assassination earned an average of $8,718 in 33 theaters, which is excellent for a South Korean film. Cop Car was right behind with an average of $8,715 in three theaters. Had it sold just one ticket more, it likely would have overtaken Assassination on the per theater chart. Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection "F" was the widest limited release of the week, which partially explains its average of just $2,031 in 895 theaters. The film opened on Tuesday and over six days earned $5.76 million. That's a huge amount for an Anime release. The Dinner only managed $805 in its lone theater. Dark Places was dealing with a trifecta of too many theaters, bad reviews, and Video on Demand, leaving it with an average of $660 in 151 theaters. Sneakerheadz was just behind with an average of $634 in three theaters.
There was only one film that hit a milestone this past week. Irrational Man expanded further over the weekend and that helped it reach $2 million. However, its per theater average is under $1000, so it will lose theaters at a rapid pace. It should still get to $3 million, but that will likely be its last milestone.
