Blu-ray Sales: Hunger has a Second Serving on Top
March 29, 2015
Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 remained in first place on the Blu-ray Sales Chart during its first full week of release with 499,000 units / $9.98 million for the week giving it totals of $1.71 million units / $34.19 million after two weeks of release. It is losing ground on Catching Fire and it might not get to 3 million units in the end.
This week's best new release was Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, with 352,000 units / $6.86 million. Its opening weekend Blu-ray share was 46%, which is fine for a live-action / FX extensive family film. Big Hero 6 slipped to third place with 121,000 units / $2.42 million over the week for totals of 2.08 million units / $39.50 million. Tinker Bell and the Legend of the Neverbeast landed in fourth place with 68,000 units / $1.56 million for the week for totals of 223,000 units / $5.11 million after two weeks of release. The Sound of Music's 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray opened in fifth place with 31,000 units / $942,000 during its first weekend of release. Combined with its previous release, the film has sold 2.10 million units / $44.53 million.
The Legend of Korra: Book Four - Balance was the only other new release to chart. It earned seventh place with 19,000 units / $416,000 for the week, giving it an opening week Blu-ray share of 35%. Both the raw numbers and the Blu-ray share is better than most TV on DVD releases manage.
