Movie Websites Launches for July 23 - July 29
July 29, 2004
During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates including the winner for the week, The Manchurian Candidate - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.
After the Sunset
Current Content: None.
Alexander
Current Content: The placeholder site was completely redesigned.
Batman Begins
Current Content: The teaser trailer was added to the site, as were a few more images.
Closer
Current Content: Typical Sony placeholder site with just the trailer so far.
Code 46
Current Content: The first review was added to the site.
Collateral
Current Content: Most of the destinations were added to the site. Each on has some audio and video clips from the movie with a little bit of interactivity.
Garden State
Current Content: Some more Zach Braff's Weblog entries were added to the site.
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Current Content: The flash site launched this week and there's a lot of information to get through, synopsis, trailer, gallery and lots of behind the scenes / news.
Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
Current Content: There have been no changes in this site for a few weeks. It would be a really good site if it had some sound.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Current Content: Another destruction of Earth animated intro was added. Also added was a little bit of information on the HGttG presence at ComicCon and one more image.
Intimate Strangers
Current Content: Simple site with all the usual features. There's a little bit of animation, but no sound.
The Machinist
Current Content: The site was completely re-launched now that it has a new release date. I prefer this site to the old one as it has much more content, including information about the real life effects of insomnia. Beside that, all the usual features are there, (synopsis, cast and crew bios, etc.) but the trailer is marked coming soon.
The Manchurian Candidate
Current Content: The placeholder site added the rest of the usual content, (cast ad crew bios, production notes, etc.) which allows the flash site to spend all of its effort on setting the mood. And mood is a very important aspect, one that is probably the most overlooked component of a website. Which is why I tend to reward sites that focus on it rather than just presenting the information in a cold, clinical way. Sites like Identity - Official Site and Suspect Zero - Official Site, for example. So it should come as no surprise that this site is the winner of the indoctrinating Weekly Website Award.
Meet the Fockers
Current Content: Just the teaser trailer and the synopsis so far.
Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement
Current Content: A lot of the extras were added to the site this week, clips to a couple of songs, princess poll, character bios, etc. That leaves just a few more to be added, production notes, featurettes, the coronation, and something called mattress surfing. This site is quite good so far, but I fear I'm too far out of its target audience to enjoy it.
Proteus
Current Content: Just the synopsis and a theatre listing.
Serenity
Current Content: Just after posting the Weekly Website Review for last week, this site was updated. This time the weblog entry dealt with the film of the movie, but more importantly, Serenity's presence at the ComicCom. For a recap of what happened, including a nearly 30 meg MP3, check out the Non-Official Firefly Site. And attention Browncoats, there is another poll and trivia question on the site. If you haven't sign up yet, click here to sign up. Even if you just answer the weekly opinion poll and trivia question you should still earn enough points to pick up some Firefly merchandise before the movie opens in April, 2005.
She Hate Me
Current Content: The site has all the regular features, but is really hurt by the lack of sound.
A Sound of Thunder
Current Content: It feels like this site has been just a redirect forever, but we finally get to see the trailer. … I don't think the wait has been worth it.
Team Amercia
Current Content: None.
Thunderbirds
Current Content: A good site with lots to look at and if the early reviews are any indication, quite possibly more entertaining than the movie itself.
Vanity Fair
Current Content: Just the trailer so far.
The Village
Current Content: The rest of the video section was added to the site. The behind the scenes featurette was the video clip I was most interested in, but it can't say a lot without giving away too much.
Without a Paddle
Current Content: A music video for "Black Betty" was added to the site. I must say I like the original version better.
