Movie Website Updates for October 21 - October 27

October 27, 2005

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner, Jarhead - Official Site.

Aeon Flux - Official Site
The site has been completely redesigned with a lot of new content and even more marked coming soon. New stuff includes clips, more info on the upcoming game, fan art and more. Production notes, cast & crew bios, character bios, script to screen, interactive comic book, interviews, behind the scenes and soundtrack are among the features still missing. I kind of liked the old menu system better as it had a funky feel, but the new one is certainly more user friendly.

Chicken Little - Official Site
The rest of the games were added this week including a batting practice game, dodgeball game, and a karaoke machine.

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
Another week, another two clips. Also, there were a handful of new images added to the site.

Freedomland - Official Site
The flash site is up and while it has the usual features, the heart of the site is an interactive flash section. Although it is well done for the most part, it isn't truly interactive and is mostly a pixel hunt.

Glory Road - Official Site
Placeholder site with the synopsis, image gallery and the trailer. This is a typical inspirational coach story, which has been done to death, and it's too early to tell if this is one of the winners or one of the losers.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Official Site
The game was added to the Mad-Eye Moody section, I'm currently in 8th and 10th place. Also, the Yule Ball was added. That section has some images, two TV spots, and two other section marked coming soon.

Hoodwinked - Official Site
Just the placeholder site with no real content, but there's a lot of animation and that bodes well for future updates.

Jarhead - Official Site
The flash site launched this week and while it all the usual features, (synopsis, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer), it also has a ton of extras including 5 TV spots, 8 clips and a behind the scenes featurette. But that's not all. There is also the three part interactive look at the movie: Boot, Shield, and Storm. Each section is quite long and in-depth talking about various topics like anthrax, The Daily Dozen, snipers, and more. This film was one of only three films coming out in November that I was truly interested in and this site really drove up that interest. And that is one of the main reasons the site is the winner of the agitated Weekly Website Award.

The Legend of Zorro - Official Site
This is a fun site, with plenty of sound and animation. It just didn't sell the film for me. Some of the extras are very fun, especially the game, but it just missed out on becoming an award-winning site.

Paradise Now - Official Site
A good site will all the regular features plus enough sound and animation to not bore the surfers. I especially like the song that plays in the background, Orange Sky by Alexi Murdoch.

The Passenger - Official Site
Pretty simple site without much in the way of style.

Prime - Official Site
The final feature was added to the site just in time for tomorrow's release. It's a personality test and according to it, I am much more ethical than most people are. No one's more surprised than I am.

Saw II - Official Site
This is a good site with plenty of features, but as I've mentioned previously, it just didn't do anything for me. It didn't see the movie to me and that is the number one job for a movie website.

Slither - Official Site
Typical placeholder site with just the synopsis, image gallery and trailer. Speaking of which, one of the down sides of this job is I learn about most movies being made when they are just in pre-production, so by the time a trailer is released I know all about them. Because of this, I rarely get to see a trailer with a fresh perspective, without a lot of preconceived notions. Well, I admit this one snuck past me, which is strange since I'm a big fan of Nathan Fillion's work since Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place. But I got to see the trailer without knowing anything about the film, and it was great. They were going for this Shaun of the Dead / Invasion of the Body Snatchers / B-Movie vibe, and I think they nailed it. It looks destined to be a cult classic kind of movie and I can't wait.

Syriana - Official Site
Typical placeholder site with just the synopsis, image gallery, and trailer. It's obvious that the film is Oscar bait, and the trailer looks like it may snag a few nominations.

Three Extremes - Official Site
The site is divided into three section, one for each segment in the movie. Each of those sections has the synopsis, cast & crew, image gallery and downloads. The site also has the trailer and a feature to post your fears. I'll admit the sound effects are sufficiently creepy, but overall the was something missing that I couldn't put my finger on.

Transamerica - Official Site
Just the synopsis and the cast & crew bios with the trailer marked coming soon.

Walk the Line - Official Site
The flash site was replaced with an error message. I'll check back later to see if it was fixed. ... It's back, and several more dates on the cross-country tour were added.

The Weather Man - Official Site
There's not a whole lot here in terms of style, but there's plenty of content. This includes several clips from the movie, interviews and a behind the scene as well.

Yours, Mine and Ours - Official Site
The flash site is up but most of the content is marked coming soon. The only extras so far are the first two interview clips.
