It's no surprise that Sin City led the rental market this weekend, but it was a little surprising that it was the top seller as well. During its opening week the film earned $8.61 million in DVD rentals and $480,000 in VHS rentals for a grand total of $9.09 million, which is lower than I would have thought.

Guess Who dropped down a spot with $6.79 million, just ahead of the only other new release in the top thirty, The Wedding Date, which made $6.59 million during its opening weekend. Next up was Because of Winn-Dixie, which held up amazingly well dipping just 10% to $3.30 million and rounding out the top five is Alexander with $3.06 million.

Good news bad news this week as the overall market was $133.8 million, up 13.5% from last week, but down 14.2% from last year. Year-to-date 2005 has brought in $4.9 billion, down 4.9% from the same time last year.

There were quite a few differences between the rental chart and the sales chart this week, however, Sin City did lead the sales chart despite the upcoming special edition. Second place went to The Wedding Date just ahead of The Simpsons - The Complete Season Six. Rounding out the top five were two oldovers, Kung Fu Hustle and Guess Who.

There were a lot more activity on the sales chart, but none of the rest of the newcomers were first-run releases. In sixth place was Dave Chappelle - For What It's Worth, another sign of the comedians incredible popularity. Rounding out the top 20 were two collections; The Astaire & Rogers Collection opened in 19th place while The Complete Thin Man Collection was 20th.

The TV on DVD charts were again dominated by newcomers with 6 of the top ten spots being new releases. Leading the way was The Simpsons - The Complete Season Six, which is no surprise since it was third on the overall charts. The Muppet Show - Season One - Special Edition slipped down one spot to second, just ahead of Will & Grace - The Complete Fourth Season. Thundercats - Season One - Volume One also slipped one spot landing in fourth place while The Office - The Complete First Season opened in fifth place.

Other new releases in the top ten include two classic shows: The Andy Griffith Show- The Complete Third Season in sixth and I Love Lucy - The Complete Fifth Season in ninth place. The only other new release to make the top ten was Undeclared - The Complete Series, which finished in eighth place.
