Competition is Super but Incredibles Stay at the Top

Despite three new films in the top five, The Incredibles continue their domination of the home market topping the DVD rentals with $6.97 million and $1.33 million in VHS sales. On the sales side it remains number one this week and in fact is the number one for sales for the year.

Remaining in second place in both DVD and VHS rentals was Ladder 49 with $6.54 million and $1.15 million respectively. The rest of the top five were all newcomers led by Finding Neverland with $6.93 million in combined DVD and VHS rentals. Next were Fat Albert and Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason with $5.97 million and $4.40 million respectively.

Three other new movies made it into the top forty on either the DVD rental charts or the VHS rental charts. Final Cut, which made just over $500,000 during its entire theatrical run, brought in $2.77 million in combined rentals during its first week of release. Also, Being Julia took in $700,000 in DVD rentals while failing to hit the top forty on the VHS charts. And on the other hand, The Dust Factory took in $100,000 in VHS rentals while missing the DVD charts, which was about 10 time what it earned during its short theatrical run.

On the sales side The Incredibles continued to lead with new comers Finding Neverland and Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason coming in next. Bambi - Special Edition dropped another spot to fourth while were Fat Albert rounds out the top five.

Other new releases making waves on the DVD sales chart were from the Star Wars franchise. Clone Wars Volume 1 came in a seventh place and Star Wars: Phantom Menace slipped in at eighth.
