Per Theater Charts Fall Down

Only two films were able to crack the $10,000 club this week, at least if you only count the three day weekend. The charts were led by the German Oscar contender, Downfall, which opened in only one theater and earned $18,195 over the 3-day weekend, and $24,220 if you add in the holiday Monday. In second place was Bride and Prejudice with a per theater average of $10,047 / $12,015.

If you include holiday Monday, three other films made it to $10,000 including last week's winner Masculine Feminine and the top two films on the overall charts, Hitch and Constantine.

This past week also saw some milestones reached for several Per Theater Chart alumnus:

  • While Ong-Bak was easily able to hit $2 million during the weekend, its sharp 46% drop-off suggests it won't last in theaters long enough to reach too many more milestones.
  • Vera Drake continues its slow but steady pace, hitting $3 million, more than 4 months into its run.
  • Hotel Rwanda hit the rare milestone of $15 million early in the weekend and even with dropping theater counts, $20 million is all but assured.
  • Finding Neverland hit $45 million late in the weekend and depending on how well it does at the Oscars on Sunday, it could see its weekly box office jump again.
  • Sideways hit $55 million early in the weekend and will hit $60 million before the Oscars are handed out. And while it's a clear favorite in one of the five categories it was nominated in, it has a realistic shot at taking home 3 Oscars. Doing so would lift its box office potential by $10 million or so.
