Amazing Boxing Comeback

The re-release of the classic boxing movie Raging Bull topped the Per Theater Charts this past weekend with $13,568 in one theater. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Born into Brothels, which had its best performance since its debut, with over $30,000 in 3 theaters for an average of $10,554.

This past week also saw some milestones reached for several Per Theatre Charts alumni:

  • The Woodman made it to $1 million during the mid-week, but that's not the kind of performance the makers were hoping for.
  • A nationwide expansion two weeks ago helped The Work and the Glory make it to $2 million over the weekend, however, its per theater average is low enough that further expansion is unlikely.
  • A Very Long Engagement earned $5 million during the mid-week, but unless it wins some Oscars, its best days are behind it.
  • In a perfect example on how award season wins can save a film's box office run, Being Julia made it to $4 million over the weekend thanks in part to its widest release in 7 weeks and best per theater average in 10.
  • Finding Neverland had its largest theater count of its release so far, and that helped propel the film to $35 million over the weekend.
  • Sideways may no longer be eligible for the Top Ten Films to Never Reach the Top Ten, nor is it on the Limited Release Charts. It did, however, have its best weekend during its 3 month release and managed to reach $40 million late on Sunday night.
