The Assault has Begun
January 19, 2005
Assault on Precinct 13, the remake of the John Carpenter low budget, cult classic gets a jump on its targets ... I mean competition, but opening tonight in roughly 2300 theatres.
2004 was a rough year for remakes and 2005 looks like it won’t start off any better. This film doesn’t have much going for it, the reviews are unimpressive, (but better than expected), the cast has very little drawing power and the ad campaign has not got me hooked like it should. On the plus side, it is the only film opening tonight and with only one new wide release on the weekend there’s not much in the way of competition, except for all the Golden Globe Winners, which should be given quite a boost over the weekend.
All-in-all, the film should manage just over $2 million tonight, just under $2 million tomorrow and $8 million over the weekend.
