International Details - Deutschland Double-Shot
October 30, 2006
Not much in terms of international details this week and what little details there are, are based on studio estimates.
- Perfume: The Story of a Murderer managed $6.3 million on 1,803 screens in 6 markets for a running tally of $65 million. The film had $1 million performances in Germany, ($1.92 million on 823 screens) and in France, ($1.08 million on 466 screens) lifting its totals in those two markets to $42.72 million and $5.33 million respectively.
- The German soccer film, Deutschland. Ein Sommermarchen, held onto first place in its native market for the third weekend in a row with $3.72 million on 721 screens lifting its total to $21.01 million.
- Click continues to wrap up its run adding $3.6 million on 2150 screens in 46 markets for a total of $87.2 million. The film's best market of the weekend was the U.K. where it earned $1.15 million on 360 screens for a total of $11.60 million.
- The Children of Men opened in a handful of major markets including France, Spain, and Australia. Its biggest market was France where it scored $846,000 on 146 screen, but that was only enough for 8th place. It earned higher placings in Belgium, (third place with $194,000 on 25 screens), Russia, (fourth place with $506,000 on 180 screens), Australia, (fifth place with $601,000 on 164 screens), and Spain, (sixth place with $596,000 on 156 screens). Overall the film made $2.8 million on 765 screens in 8 markets for a total of $11.58 million internationally, $8.72 million from the U.K.
- Barnyard: The Original Party Animals earned $2.7 million on 1354 screens in 16 markets for a total of $8.41 million. The film earned the majority of that in the U.K. where it placed third place with $1.92 million on 444 screens.
- The Grudge 2 started its international run in fifth place in the U.K. with $1.45 million on 331 screens.
- An Inconvenient Truth was flat adding $1.4 million on 418 screens in 21 markets for a total of $7.8 million. In France the film grew by 8% to $704,000 on 100 screens for a total of $1.55 million.
- Pan's Labyrinth had the best week-to-week drop-off in the top 20 in Spain down just 31%. This allowed it to remain in top spot with $1.34 million on 301 screens over the weekend for a running tally of $4.92 million. Given the relative sizes of the two markets, that's about equivalent to $75 million here. But there's little chance it will match that figure when it opens here. In fact, it might not match $4.92 million.
- Little Miss Sunshine added $1.3 million on 472 screens for a total of $14.1 million. Its best market of the weekend was Spain where it earned $426,000 on 179 screens, but that was only good enough for ninth place. Meanwhile the film made $162,000 on 32 screens in Brazil.
- History Boys fell just 20% during its second weekend in United Kingdom earning $1.20 million on 300 screens for a total of $3.75 million.
- You, Me & Dupree slipped down the charts with $1 million on 810 screens in 30 markets for a total of $47 million internationally. Of that weekend total it earned $308,000 on 199 screens in Spain for a two-week total of $1.37 million.
- The Prestige started its international run in three Southeast Asian markets taking first place in Taiwan with $678,000 on 78 screens while earning second place in Singapore with $202,000 on 29 screens. On the other hand, it managed just fifth place in Malaysia with just $67,000 on 30 screens.
- Marie Antoinette opened in 12th place in the U.K. with $534,000 on 179 screens while it opened in third place in Portugal with $120,000 on 16.
- Tim Burton's A Nightmare Before Christmas was (re)released in Japan earning $70,000 in three screens. It expands this weekend and should place well on the international charts.
