More Milestones for Narnia

Without any big time competition, Narnia was again able to lead the international box office. Over the weekend the film made $22.65 million on 7034 screens in 47 markets breaking the $300 milestone in the international scene with $321.41 million. Also, it became the first film to make $100 million during 2006. Its best numbers of the weekend came from the U.K. where the film added $2.43 million on 467 screens for a 6-week total of $71.42 million.

King Kong remained in second place $15.66 million on 6024 screens in 57 markets for a $295.20 million international total and worldwide it is just shy of $500 million with $498 million. The film opened in its final market over the weekend taking in $3.1 million on 315 screens in China while in New Zealand it broke $5 million during the midweek and with its $291,000 on 110 screens this weekend it now has $5.35 million after five weeks.

Jarhead opened in nearly 20 additional markets and popped into the top five with $7.65 million on 2007 screens in 26 markets for an early international total of $12.54 million. The film opened in first place in the U.K. with $3.41 million on screens 390 while in France it placed second with $1.4 million on 338. Holdovers include a fourth place, $1.04 million outing on 323 screens in Germany for a two-week total of $3.15 million. The film opens next weekend in Russia and in Australia and Italy early in February.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire slipped another spot but it still managed fourth place with $7.25 million on 4522 screens in 58 markets for a $583.38 million so far. That puts the film just days away from overtaking Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for fifth place on the international all time charts while its worldwide total of $866 million is tenth on the All-Time chart. Fellowship of the Ring should fall by the end of the week and Chamber of Secrets will follow shortly.

The King and the Clown continues to grow in South Korea and that allowed it to climb into fifth place on the international charts with $6.42 million on 389 screens over the weekend and an incredible $28.68 million total after just 3 weeks.
