DVD Sales - Top of the Chart is Unchanged
November 4, 2007
The Transformers was able to remain in top spot on the sales chart but it is hard to call this a victory as it fell more than 70% to 1.64 million units sold. However, This was a better hold than 300 managed during its second week of release and the film has an edge in sales after two weeks in both total units sold, (7.14 million vs. 6.60 million), and dollars, ($164.15 million vs. $149.64 million), including last week's adjusted numbers. This gives The Transformers a clear path to becoming the top selling DVD of the year, at least so far.
The best of the new releases was Meet the Robinsons, which placed second selling 1.13 million units for sales of $19.12 million. Mr. Brooks was well back during its release selling 364,000 units during its first week of release and that works out to $7.28 million in sales. Hostel II debuted in fourth place just with just 263,000 units sold and $4.48 million in first week sales. The only other holdover in the top five was The Jungle Book, which climbed into the fifth place with 175,000 units sold for the week and $2.22 million sold in total.
Just missing the top five was The Sopranos - Season 6 - Part 2 which sold 174,000 units. However, its first week sales of $10.41 million were the third best for the week. There were only three other new releases to chart this week led by Home of the Brave and its 128,000 units sold. That was enough for 11th place on the charts and $2.56 million in sales. The next two were both Saw related as Saw III placed 14th with 83,000 units sold and the trilogy box set placed 17th with 66,000 units sold.
