DVD Sales - Sales Chart Goes Wild
August 26, 2007
Wild Hogs led a healthy group of new releases to win the race on the DVD sales chart with 2.20 million units sold and $35.16 million in first week sales.
300 sold 492,000 additional units this week for a running tally of 7.10 million units; so far the DVD has generated an estimated $160.88 million in sales.
Fracture opened in third place with 354,000 units, or $6.37 million in sales.
Vacancy also did reasonably well, pulling in $3.70 million in first week sales from 206,000 units.
Rounding out the top five was Disturbia with second week sales of $3.36 million from 199,000 units for running tallies of 861,000 units and $14.63 million.
Just missing the top five was Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters for DVD with 189,000 units sold for sales of $3.78 million, which is close to what it made during its entire theatrical run.
Doctor Strange was the next new release to chart as the direct-to-DVD release pulled in $1.24 million in sales from 82,000 units sold.
The only other new release to chart was The Lookout, which placed 19th with 40,000 units sold for opening week sales of $796,000.
On a side note, High School Musical and its concert DVD sold a combined 72,000 units during the week.
This is not surprising as the release of the sequel, High School Musical 2, undoubtedly helped to boost sales for the week.
In fact, High School Musical 2 broke records with 17.6 million viewers and that should translate into increased sales for all High School Musical merchandise, especially the latest DVD, which should hit stores in November.
