Secret to Towelhead's Success
September 16, 2008
Towelhead opened with just over $50,000 in 4 theaters for an average of $13,206, which was the best of on this week's chart. A Secret also cracked $10,000 on the per theater chart, but only barely. Its average was $10,088 in four theaters.
The best of the rest of the new releases was actually a re-release, as Flow pulled in an average of $9,025 in its two theaters. There were no other new releases that did well over this past weekend. In fact, the next closest was Loins of Punjab Presents, which has a great name, but a poor per theater average of just $3,713. Moving Midway was right behind with $3,270, while Greetings from the Shore earned just over $40,000 in 31 theaters for an average of $1,307. Finally, it was reported that Proud American opened over the weekend in 750 theaters. Weekend estimates had the movie making just $135,000 for an average of only $180. That's the weakest per theater average for a movie opening in 100 or more theaters, beating the previous low of $231 by The Hottie and the Nottie.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:
