June 25, 2008
Indiana Jones And The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull saw its prospects rise in Japan as it had the best opening of the year, pulling in $13.09 million on 789 screens. The film is still earning 7-digit weekends in the U.K. and France with $2.86 million on 493 screens and $1.30 million on 739 million respectively. After a month of release, the film has made $74,28 million in the former and $35.99 million in the latter. Overall, it made $23.75 million on 5,664 screens in 58 markets for a total of $391.21 million internationally and $682.17 million worldwide. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is now in the top 30 all-time, and it shouldn't have any trouble climbing a few more spots at the very least.
The Incredible Hulk remained in second place with $23.04 million on 4,659 screens in 48 markets for a total of $64.01 million after two weeks of release. The film debuted in first place in Spain with $2.21 million on 557 screens over the weekend while it also topped the charts in Italy with $1.53 million on 477 screens over the weekend and $2.42 million in total. Meanwhile, the film remained in first place in the U.K. with $3.67 million on 483 screens over the weekend for a total of $12.38 million after two. It was also able to crack $1 million in Mexico with $2.01 million on 426 screens over the weekend for a total of $8.43 million after two, as well as in South Korea ($1.20 million on 415 screens over the weekend and $5.46 million in total) and in Russia ($1.16 million on 500 screens over the weekend and $5.39 million in total). The Incredible Hulk has yet to open in a few major markets, while it is on pace to match, or at least come close to its domestic total.
Sex and the City was steady this week, down a mere 7% to $22.00 million on 3,510 screens in 52 markets for a total of $171.71 million internationally while it has $304.16 million worldwide. This weekend it was aided by openings in Russia and Spain. In the former it opened in first place with $3.80 million on 495 screens while in the latter it made $2.04 million on 359 screens over the weekend and $2.18 million including midweek numbers, which was enough for second place. Holdovers were led by Australia where it earned $2.57 million on 431 screens over the weekend for a total of $19.22 million after three while in the U.K. it earned $2.38 million on 465 screens over the weekend for a total of $45.45 million after four.
Kung Fu Panda climbed a spot to fourth with $20.48 million on 2,857 screens in 18 markets for a total of 67.98 million. This includes first place openings in Mexico with $6.15 million on 423 screens and in China with an estimated $4 million. Holdovers were led by South Korea at $3.89 million on 604 screens over the weekend for a total of $20.81 million after three. Meanwhile in Russia, it was down more than 70% to $1.40 million on 615 screens, but its total of $18.92 million is fantastic and is the best for a Hollywood blockbuster this summer.
