DVD Rentals - Yuma on Track
January 21, 2008
Just as it did on the sales chart, 3:10 to Yuma was the best on the rental charts. It was part of a group of six new releases to chart, and pulled in $10.76 million during its first week of release.
Up next was a trio of holdovers led by War with $9.74 million for the week and $21.51 million in total, which is almost as much as it earned theatrically.
Rush Hour 3 added $9.42 million to its total of $38.76 million.
The Kingdom placed fourth with $8.86 million for a total of $36.12 million and it too should match its theatrical run before too long.
Opening in fifth place was Death Sentence with $8.33 million, which was almost as much as it earned theatrically.
Adding in its sales numbers and it is already more successful on the home market than it was in theaters.
Four more new releases charted this week, three of which opened with more than they made during their entire theatrical runs.
(This is a much easier feat than most weeks since almost all new releases flopped at the box office.)
Strangely, the one that didn't, Dragon Wars, was the best of the rest landing in 11th place with $5.35 million.
Sunshine opened in 16th place with $4.04 million while Joshua placed 20th with $3.01 million.
Smiley Face, which barely had a theatrical run, opened in 27th place with $1.86 million.
Finally, White Noise 2: The Light just missed the top 30 with $1.34 million.
