Million Dollar Expansion for Blood

January 8, 2008

There Will Be Blood expanded into 50 or so theaters over the weekend but was still able to come out on top of the per theater charts with an average of $25,905. Second place went to The Bucket List, which was down less than 3% to $20,424 and is poised to do very well in its wide expansion this weekend. Persepolis was the only other film to top $10,000 as it earned an average of $10,981 in 7 theaters.

There were only three limited releases that opened this past weekend and none of them even came close to $10,000. The best was Undoing and its average of $5,355. The Killing of John Lennon took in $3,077 in one theater while A Bloody Aria earned an estimated $250 is its lone theater.

Here is an extensive list of films that earned milestones over the holidays.

  • L'Age des Tenebres hit $1 million sometime during this period, but $2 million is likely not in the cards.
  • The Bucket List reached its first milestone this past weekend.
  • The same is true for There Will Be Blood.
  • The Savages made it to $2 million over this time and is not done yet.
  • I'm Not There is sitting at $3 million now, but that's as far as it will go.
  • The Kite Runner had just started its run when the holidays kicked in, but it has already surpassed $5 million and could reach $10 million as early as this weekend.
  • Atonement was sitting at just below $3 million last time, now it is just under $20 million.
  • The last milestone mentioned for Juno was $2 million. It is currently at over $50 million. At the end of the weekend it was just above Resident Evil: Extinction and just below Charlie Wilson's War for 2007 releases.
