Potter Update: Half-Blood Prince Earns Estimated $21.925 Million on Day Two
July 17, 2009
This morning's early estimate for the second day's gross for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is $21.925 million, down over 60% from Wednesday's opening.
Even when we exclude Wednesday's midnight screenings, that's down almost 40%, which is a bigger drop-off than we were expecting.
However, it is in line with the second day for Order of the Phoenix, which dropped 58% from its opening day.
If we assume Half-Blood Prince will follow the pattern of its predecessor in the franchise, we can expect around $30 million in earnings today (Friday), $33 million on Saturday, and $26 million on Sunday.
That would translate into a weekend just shy of $90 million and $170 million after five days.
Not a bad weekend if you can get it, although a little weaker than we were anticipating after the massive turnout for midnight screenings on Wednesday.
