Movie Website Reviews for the Weekend of July 3rd, 2009
July 5, 2009
It's week's like this that make me think dropping this column to concentrate on DVD reviews is a wise move. Half the film's on this week's list had no sites to review. Of the half that did, all had something that stood out from the norm, but it was Ice Age - Dawn of the Dinosaurs's Official Site that stood out the most and it is the winner of this week's Weekly Website Award.
The Beaches of Agnes - No Official Site
The Girl from Monaco - No Official Site
I Hate Valentine's Day - No Official Site
Ice Age - Dawn of the Dinosaurs - Official Site
Local Color - Official Site
Public Enemies - Official Site
This week's list of movie sites gets off to a poor start with a movie that has no website.
There's nothing for the North American release and the original French site is dead.
I'm sensing a pattern here.
Finally, an actual movie site that I can review. And it's a good site. All of the usual features are here (synopsis, bios, images, and trailer) and there are more than a few extras as well. There are extras like a couple of clips, which are common on movie sites, but there are also a lot of games, five in all. Additionally, there's more than enough sound and animation, including audio clips for each of the ten character bio pages. Finally, you can switch the background from the Ice Age to the Dino World. This is clearly the best site on this week's list. Then again, half the movies on this week's list do not even have sites, so that's a low bar to set. It is also a kids movie, which you expect to have bigger and better sites. Even so, it is worthy of the Emerging Weekly Website Award.
A limited release with an actual site. The only one on this week's list. There are the usual features here, as few clips, and a making of featurette, which is the best feature of the site.
A solid site that delivers in terms of style and substance. The usual features are all here, including plenty of production notes. Extras include character bios, and it's a large cast. There are a huge number of videos, includes trailers and TV clips, but also seven clips from the movie, and a making of featurette. Finally, there's a timeline / map of the events depicted in the movie. A solid site, but not an award-worthy site.
