Thanksgiving Estimates: Deathly Hallows and Tangled Neck-and-Neck

A close battle for top spot at the box office led to a generally healthy Thanksgiving weekend, which looks set to be the second-biggest overall, behind last year's Twilight-dominated feast. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I lays claim to the number one berth with a very solid $50.345 million estimate, according to Warner Bros., but Tangled is close behind with Disney putting its opening three day weekend at $49.1 million. Tangled has posted better day-to-day numbers, particularly since Thanksgiving Day itself, and topped the chart on Saturday.

Burlesque was the strongest of the other openers with $11.8 million over the weekend and a total of $17.2 million since opening on Wednesday. Love and Other Drugs and Faster trailed with $9.85 million and $8.71 million respectively. Notably, Faster improved its performance on each of its first four days in release, suggesting good word of mouth for its Thanksgiving counter-programming effort.

The standout performer among limited releases was The King's Speech, which posted an estimated $349,791 from four theaters over three days, for an average close to $90,000 per theater.
