Romantics Love the Per Theater Chart

There were just a ton of films to reach the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart over the weekend, led by The Romantics with an average of $22,764 in two theaters. However, with its reviews, it probably won't last long. Heartbreak opened in second place with an average of $17,543 in three theaters, but it will likely have better legs. Ahead of Time and My Dog Tulip were neck-and-neck with $12,790 and $12,648 respectively. Finally, Dabangg opened with more than $600,000 in 62 theaters for an average of $10,131.

There were plenty of other new limited releases this week, with some doing very well, and others not so much. The best of the rest was The Trail with $8,957 in one theater. Logan opened with $7,137, also in one theater. Fool for Love made nearly $50,000 in 8 theaters for an average of $6,164, while Who is Harry Nilsson? was just a tiny bit behind with $6,078 in one theater. Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould opened with an average of $5,678 in three theaters. I'm Still Here opened with nearly $100,000 in 19 theaters for an average of $5,087.

Other films were not as lucky. Hideaway only managed an average of $2,781 in four theaters while Lovely, Still pulled in an average of $2,292 in two. Bran Nue Dae missed the Mendoza Line with an average of just $1,470 in 16 theaters. Daddy's Home opened with just $796 in one theater. Legendary only managed an average of $717, but it was playing in 177 theaters, which is too many for a limited release. Likewise, Expecting Mary was playing in 54 theaters, which partially explains why it only managed an average of $531.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

• Cairo Time hit $1 million over the weekend, over a month after its release.
• Flipped actually expanded over the weekend and had the best showing during its run, which helped it cross the $1 million milestone.
• Mao's Last Dancer got to $2 million, if you include its previous run in Canada.
• The Kids are All Right reached $20 million early in the weekend, and while that's as far as it will go, it is still more than several wide releases have earned this year, including Our Family Wedding, while it is about to overtake Just Wright.
