Per Theater Chart: Kids' Legs More Than Just All Right

July 20, 2010

The Kids are All Right continued to lead the way on the Per Theater Chart with a stunning average of $28,009 in 38 theaters that helped it earn more than $1 million over the weekend. Its per theater average did fall 40%; however, its theater count rose from 7 to 38, so this is actually a very good result. The only other film in the $10,000 club was the overall box office leader, Inception, with an average of $16,557. That's a little below expectations, but if it holds really well, it might remain in the $10,000 club next week.

There's not much to report with new limited releases, as we only have numbers for two of them. Kisses opened well with an average of $7,743 in two theaters, which suggests it could expand somewhat. On the other hand, Udaan missed the Mendoza Line with an average of just $1,358, also in two theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Micmacs surpassed $1 million, but that's as far as it will go.
  • The Kids are All Right earned more than $1 million over the weekend, so it should come as no surprise that it hit its first milestone in the process. It will reach its second milestone sometime today.
  • The Girl Who Played With Fire reached $1 million early last week and $2 million over the weekend, and that's not counting its run in Canada.
  • Winter's Bone just barely made it to $3 million during the weekend, but $4 million is still likely.
  • As expected, Cyrus topped $4 million early in the weekend, and it got to $5 million late in the weekend. It could reach $10 million, eventually, but it will be tough. That said, since it only cost $7 million to make, its theatrical run is already a success and it is well on its way to profitability on the home market.
