International Details: Date Night Dips in Popularity
May 2, 2010
The top five films on the international scene were published on Wednesday and can be found here.
Date Night fell out of the top five, but added $7.47 million on 3120 screens in 48 markets for a total of $28.31 million. The film opened in first place in the U.K., but only made $1.97 million on 400 screens, which is about the same as $11 million here. That's not a great start and there's little hope that the film will match its domestic total overseas, but it is still a solid midlevel hit and should show a profit by the time it reaches the home market.
- The Bounty Hunter also fell out of the top five, earning $4.46 million on 2647 screens in 56 markets for a total of $57.69 million. It had no major market openings this past weekend, but it isn't done yet. It is very close to overtaking its domestic total on the international side.
- Go Lala Go! added $4.33 million on 610 screens in China, giving it $12.88 million in total after just two weeks of release.
- Burnt By The Sun 2 opened in ninth place with $4.08 million on 1182 screens in 4 markets. Of this opening, $3.76 million was earned in 1079 screens in Russia, which was easily enough for first place.
- Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score - Part II added $3.84 million on 410 screens in Japan for a total of $14.39 million after two weeks of release. This was enough for second place in its native market and tenth place overall.
- Fellow Japanese film, Detective Conan: The Lost Ship In The Sky, remained right behind with $3.71 million on 352 screens over the weekend for a total of $12.14 million, also after two.
- East Wind, Rain debuted in third place in China and 12th place internationally with $2.78 million on 385 screens.
- Shutter Island slipped a spot to 13th with $2.67 million on 1609 screens in 41 markets for a total of $162.05 million internationally and $288.31 million worldwide. It is not holding on very well in Japan, down another 44% to $1.12 million on 440 screens over the weekend for a total of $11.71 million. It likely won't reach $300 million worldwide, but it is still a sizable hit.
- Green Zone fell to 14th place with $2.67 million on 1353 screens in 32 markets for a total of $48.07 million. The film opened in fifth place in Mexico with $263,000 on 150 screens.

- The Extraordinary Adventures Of Adèle Blanc-Sec earned $2.54 million on 675 screens in 3 markets for a total of $8.55 million. Of that, $2.21 million on was earned on 636 screens in France, giving it a two-week total of $7.43 million.

- Matrimoni E Altri Disastri opened in second place in Italy and 21st place internationally with $1.70 million on 302 screens.
- Crayon Shinchan 2010 added $1.68 million on 325 screens in Japan over the weekend for a total of $5.16 million after two.

- Chico Xavier was pushed into second place in Brazil and 28th place internationally with $1.35 million on 351 screens over the weekend and $13.45 million after four. That is like earning $250 million here, when you take into account the relative size of the two markets.
- Hot Tub Time Machine reached the top 30 for the first time during its run, barely, with $1.31 million on 275 screens in 7 markets for a total of $1.75 million. It opened in first place in Australia with $1.2 million 199 screens, which is roughly inline with its debut here.
