Titan Stands Tall on Per Theater Chart

Not only did Clash of the Titans top the overall box office chart, it also led the way on the per theater chart with an average of $16,213. Breaking Upwards was right behind with $15,467 in one theater. Why Did I Get Married Too? was the only other film in the $10,000 club with an average of $13,591.

None of the rest of the new limited releases came close to that mark, with The Thorn in the Heart well back at $5,173 in its one theater. The Greatest came in at $34,000 in 8 theaters for an average of $4,202 while The Warlords earned just over $10,000 in 3 theaters for an average of $3,358. Neither opening suggests room for expansion. Finally, Don McKay missed the Mendoza Line at just $1,274 per theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

• The 2010 Oscar Shorts made it to $1 million since last week. It barely got there, but it got there. This is the first time that the franchise has reached that milestone, and I hope this encourages others to put out short film compilations like this. Granted, this one has the Oscar name behind it, so it has an advantage. But I think there could be a market here.
• Chloe is showing legs that are closer to those of a wide release than a limited release. Still, it reached $1 million since last week, and it should hit $2 million by this time next week.
• The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo made it to $1 million over the weekend, just counting its recent release in the United States. Since it played in Canada previously, with a different distributor, it's getting a little confusing to keep track of milestones.
• Greenberg hit $2 million over the weekend and by this time next week should be at $3 million.
• My Name is Khan just inched over $4 million, six weeks after hitting $3 million.
• Ghost Writer is starting to shed theaters, but it still topped $10 million early in the weekend. It still has a slim chance to get to $15 million, but it will need to avoid losing too many theaters in the coming weeks.
