DVD Sales: Boots Walks All Over Competition

Puss in Boots remained in first place on the DVD sales chart during its first full week of release. It sold an additional 798,000 units and generating $12.16 million in revenue for totals of 1.65 million units / $26.74 million so far.
The best new release was Hugo, which placed second with 502,000 unit s/ $8.42 million. It was a very expensive movie to make and it deserved to perform better than this. The Bodyguard continued its ghoulish climb reaching third place with 239,000 units / $1.43 million. At least the studio isn't jacking up the price to cash in. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 fell to fourth place with 216,000 units / $4.02 million over the week for a totals of 4.51 million units / $82.12 million. It is the best selling DVD of 2012 and will likely hit 5 million units shortly. It could reach $100 million during the run up to the release of Part 2. Tower Heist fell to fifth place with 149,000 units / $2.98 million over the week giving it a two-week total of 550,000 units / $9.79 million.
The best of the rest of the new releases was Justice League: Doom in eighth place with 100,000 units / $1.35 million. Meanwhile, Johnny English Reborn opened in 15th place with 57,000 units / $993,000. At least it made a bundle internationally.
