Blu-ray Sales: Blu-ray Has New Life
October 3, 2013
The Blu-ray sales chart for the week of July 21st, 2013 had a lot of new releases on top with three of them opening in the top three spots. The best was 42 with 253,000 units / $5.82 million for an opening week Blu-ray share of 34%. That's actually really good for a drama.
Evil Dead landed in second place with 158,000 units/ $3.37 million for an opening week Blu-ray share of 48%. That's fantastic and only summer blockbusters can expect better. Bullet to the Head earned third place selling 68,000 units and generating $1.57 million in revenue. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 36%, which is adequate for this type of release. The Ultimate Matrix Collection appeared in fourth place with 50,000 units / $1.71 million for the week and a total of 221,000 units / $8.13 million, while the The Dark Knight Trilogy was right behind with 47,000 units / $1.37 million for the week and 879,000 units / $29.93 million in total.
Further down the list we find Hell on Wheels: Season Two opened in 14th place with 10,000 units / $235,000 for an opening week Blu-ray share of 27%. This is a strong start for a TV on DVD release. The final release to chart was Erased, which earned 18th place with 9,000 units / $115,000. It didn't even chart on the DVD sales chart.
