Blu-ray Sales: March 31st, 2013: Lincoln Feels Miserable(s)
May 19, 2013
There were quite a few new releases to reach the upper echelon of the March 31st, 2013 edition of the Blu-ray sales chart. Lincoln was the best of these earning first place with 496,000 units / $14.24 million during its first week of release for a Blu-ray share of 38%. This is really good for a drama.
Les Miserables, the 1998 version with Liam Neeson, opened in second place with 371,000 units / $4.49 million. This pushed Les Miserables, the 2012 version, into third place with 353,000 units / $8.46 million for the week giving it totals of 844,000 units / $20.25 million after two. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey fell to fourth place with 329,000 units / $7.87 million for the week. After two weeks of release, the film has sold 1.71 million units and generated $39.62 million. Wreck-it Ralph climbed into fifth place with 182,000 units / $6.18 million for the week and 1.45 million units / $45.06 million after nearly a month of release.
Parental Guidance earned seventh place with 107,000 units / $2.63 million for an opening week Blu-ray share of 24%. This is pretty good for a live action kids film. Killing Them Softly just missed the top ten with 52,000 units / $1.00 million. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 31%, which is inline with expectations, more or less. The Collection opened in 18th place with 22,000 units / $397,000 giving it an opening week Blu-ray share of 27%. Given its target audience, it should have performed better.
