Per Theater Chart: New Releases Strike Out
April 16, 2013
There were no films able to reach the $10,000 club on this week's per theater average. However, while this is disappointing, it is not uncommon for this time of year. The best film was 42, which not only opened in first place on the overall chart, but also earned first place on the per theater average chart with an average of $9,153. The best limited release of the week was Disconnect, which earned an average of $8,240 in 15 theaters.
There were a few other new limited releases that did quite well, but there were also several that were disasters. To the Wonder didn't live up to its pedigree with an average of $6,856 in 17 theaters. The Angel's Share earned its fair share with an average of $6,279 in three theaters. It's a Disaster didn't live down to its name earning an acceptable average of $5,102 in three theaters. Unfortunately, not every film was as lucky. The Fists of Legend barely avoided the Mendoza Line with an average of $2,141 in 23 theaters. Love, Marilyn was even further behind with just $943 in its one theater. The Man Who Laughs was also only playing in one theater and it earned just $564. Finally, Into the White will be mired in red ink, as it opened with a mere $90 in its lone theater.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:
