Per Theater Chart: Jumping over the Competition

There were three films in the $10,000 club, including the top two on the overall chart. 22 Jump Street led the way with an average of $17,263. The Rover was wedged between the two wide releases with an average of $13,860 in five theaters. Next up was How to Train Your Dragon 2 with an average of $11,627. This is good, but lower than expected.

The best of the rest of the new limited releases was Ivory Tower with an average of $8,929 in two theaters. Hellion was right behind with $7,601 in its lone theater. Alone Yet Not Alone was playing in just over 100 theaters and earned an average of $6,602. Coffee in Berlin was next with $3,918 in one theater. The rest of the new limited releases bombed. The Signal is the wrong genre for limited release, it was playing in too many theaters, and its reviews were mixed. So it should come as no surprise that is missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,297. The Amazing Catfish was even weaker with an opening weekend box office of $733 in its one theater. Evergreen: The Road to Legalization was the weakest of this week's new releases with $189 in its lone theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

• Words and Pictures reached $1 million during the weekend. It could get to $2 million, but its per theater average is low enough that it likely won't last too much longer.
• The Grand Seduction also reached $1 million, but did so just before the weekend. It could also get to $2 million, but its per theater average is also rather low, so it won't last too much longer in theaters.
