May 20, 2014
Godzilla led the way on both the overall box office chart and the per theater box office chart, earning an average of $23,580 in nearly 4,000 theaters. The second best film on the per theater chart was The Immigrant with an average of $14,688 in three theaters. Chinese Puzzle was the final film in the $10,000 club with an average of $11,772 in two theaters.
A couple of the other new limited releases that did okay business, but most of the rest struggled. Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case earned $5,066 in one theater while Half of a Yellow Sun was right behind with $4,843, also in one theater. Next Year Jerusalem struggled with an opening weekend of $2,590, again in one theater. Horses of God was next with $2,251 over the weekend and a five-day total of $3,779. A People Uncounted missed the Mendoza Line by a large margin with just $390 in one theater.
