Per Theater Chart: Thrills are Not Cheap But Grand Still Rules
March 25, 2014
The Grand Budapest Hotel expanded once again, but still managed to lead the way on the per theater chart with an average of $22,329 in 304 theaters. The overall number one film, Divergent, was in second place on the per theater chart with an average of $13,874. Rob the Mob was right behind with $13,833 in its lone theater. Jodorowsky's Dune opened in three theaters earning an average of $12,006. God's Not Dead was the big surprise of the weekend with an average of $11,852 in 780 theaters.
It was a busy week for new limited releases and a number of them did quite well. Cheap Thrills' weekend haul was more impressive. It earned an average of $9,319 in two theaters, including some limited screenings. In some ways, this is the best result of the weekend, as it has been playing on Video on Demand for a month. It Felt Like Love earned $8,211 while playing in one theater. Anita was next with an average was with $6,302 in seven theaters and Nymphomaniac: Volume One had a nearly identical average with $6,215 in 29 theaters. The French Minister earned $3,800 in one theater, which isn't good, but it isn't really bad either. The Missing Picture barely missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $2,030 in five theaters over the weekend. Blood Ties was playing in 28 theaters, which is a lot and it bombed with an average of just $961.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:
