2014 - Awards Season: WGA - Winners

The Writers Guild of America winners were just announced and there wasn't a lot of surprises to talk about, but enough interesting things happened that it wasn't boring.

The categories and winners are...

Best Original Screenplay

• The Grand Budapest Hotel

• The Imitation Game

• The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz

• I'm very happy The Grand Budapest Hotel won. That was the film I was most hoping would win.
• Boyhood losing out to The Grand Budapest Hotel gives Birdman a better chance to be the big winner come Oscar night. It couldn't win here, because it was deemed ineligible, so it is more of a case of winning because its competition lost.
• I'm not as happy The Imitation Game won for Best Adapted Screenplay. I really wanted Guardians of the Galaxy to win, but I knew that was a long, long shot. However, I think Gone Girl is the better screenplay and should have won, but it lost because The Imitation Game is the more Oscar-bait movie.
• The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz winning for Best Documentary doesn't help when it comes to predicting who will win on Oscar night.
