DVD Releases for January 30, 2007

I'm still waiting for the first "Must Have" DVD of the year (the first one of those doesn't show up until mid-February), but at least there are more that nearly make the grade this week than so far this year. Flyboys - Collector's Edition is better than the reviews would indicate, as long as you are in the right frame of mind. Lucky Louie - The Complete First Season is a great show but a little demented for a mainstream audience, and the same can be said for Viva Pedro - Pedro Almodovar Classics Collection - Buy from Amazon. But in the end I went with Red Doors - Buy from Amazon as the DVD Pick of the Week. Perhaps an unexpected choice, but it's a movie that should be seen by more. More...

With Thanksgivings just around the corner, there are a lot of releases coming out this week. You see, every time this year there's a media report that the day after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year. However, this is not true. Christmas Eve is actually the biggest shopping day of the year (talk about last minute gifts). Even so, Thanksgiving is still a massively important time of the year and there's no surprise that studios are trying to get out as many gift ideas as possible just in time for the holiday rush. With that in mind, there are several full series sets coming out this week, including DVD Pick of the Week contender Get Smart - The Complete Series - Buy Direct. Opening the Door to the Per Theater Charts

Red Doors earned top spot on the per theatre charts after starting its theatrical run with just over $35,000 in its two theatres for an average of $17,525. Hopefully this will allow the film to expand in the coming weeks. Man Push Cart was the only other film to top $10,000 as it took in $13,694 in its lone theatre. More...

After a very busy month, the number of site on this week's list dropped off dramatically. The decline in quantity was accompanied by a decline in quality with no site jumping out as the obvious choice for the Weekly Website Award.
