Synopsis

Kate Mathieson is a diver who is deeply drawn to close encounters with the magnificent White Sharks who rule the primal predator shore of isolated Guadalupe island. When her husband chooses ambition over his wife's safety in a split second encounter with the jaws of death, her marriage nearly breaks apart. A year later, a monsoon season voyage back to the same island becomes an escalating series of terrifying underwater confrontations and gut-wrenching emotional challenges. Testing her courage in the face of nature's ultimate terror, Kate proves herself to be as tough as the men she is attracted to; and perhaps bravest of all she endures and changes the terms of the contest with mankind's most feared underwater predator

Blu-ray Sales: Contraband Can't Hide at the Top

May 8th, 2012

There were only two new releases to earn a spot on the Blu-ray sales chart, but one of them, Contraband, took top spot on the chart. The film sold 510,000 units / $10.19 million giving it an opening week Blu-ray share of 52%. At this point, any action film that doesn't open with a 50% Blu-ray share should be considered a disappointment. More...

DVD Sales: Contraband Smuggled to the Top

May 8th, 2012

Contraband benefited from a really weak slate of new releases and this helped it earn first place on the DVD sales chart. During its first week of release, it sold 470,000 units and generated $7.52 million, which is good given its box office numbers. More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for April 24th, 2012

April 24th, 2012

It's slow week for new releases, a really slow week. According to Amazon.com, the best selling new release is Contraband. It was the biggest box office hit released in January, but it was still no more than a midlevel hit. The second best selling release of the week is The Innkeepers, which is a sign that it is a slow week. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, but it is a limited release that struggled to find an audience in theaters and it shouldn't be the high on the chart. The third best selling new release of the week is the latest Fullmetal Alchemist release, which is even more surprising, as Anime is still very much a niche market release. The fourth best selling release is Car 54 Where Are You?. Really? I'm surprised anyone remembers that TV show. Are there any releases that are worth picking up? Perhaps even contenders for pick of the week? Actually, The Innkeepers on Blu-ray is in the running, as is Pariah on Blu-ray. However, in the end I went with Todd and The Book Of Pure Evil: Season 1, giving it the rarely awarded Puck of the Week. More...

Limited Releases Fighting Mad

March 30th, 2012

There are a number of films opening in limited release this week, including a few documentaries. The biggest of these is Bully, which earned a boost in its publicity thanks to a ratings fight with the MPAA. The Island President is another documentary worth checking out. Meanwhile, Goon makes its theatrical debut in the States and it deserves to find an audience south of the border. More...
