DVD Releases for November 4, 2008

November 3rd, 2008

This week's list of DVD and Blu-rays feels a little shorter than usual. Either the problems I've been having with Amazon has caused me to miss a lot of releases, or this is just the calm before the storm. It won't be too long before the holiday shopping season starts, and when it does we will be flooded with DVDs and Blu-rays. As for the best of what's here, I'm going with Futurama - Bender's Game, either on DVD or Blu-ray. More...

Has Awards Season Started?

September 23rd, 2008

The Duchess was a fashionable choice for moviegoers over the weekend, as it made just under $200,000 in just 7 theaters for an average of $27,204, which was the clear winner. The reviews were not great, but the film still has a shot at being nominated for several technical Oscars. Appaloosa was the biggest limited release of the week, pulling in just shy of $250,000 in 14 theaters to give it an impressive average of $17,775. Next up was August Evening with $11,033, while the final film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart was Walking on Dead Fish with $10,524 in one theater. More...

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!

June 10th, 2008

Sorry, wrong Khan. Mongol, which is a movie about Genghis Khan, opened in first place on the per theater chart with an average of $27,065 in five theaters, which gives it plenty of room to grow. The overall number one film, Kung Fu Panda, placed second with $14,642. Next up was the second place film on the overall box office charts, You Don't Mess With the Zohan, which made an average of $11,130 in each of its nearly 3500 theaters. The final film to cross the $10,000 mark was The Grocer's Son with $10,587 in its lone theater. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of June 6, 2008

June 8th, 2008

Two wide releases this week, and both had strong sites. This is good news as so far this summer I've been disappointed with the selection of sites more often than not. However, while both were strong, Kung Fu Panda's Official Site was in a class by itself and it easily wins the Weekly Website Award. More...

When Did You Last See a Limited Release?

June 6th, 2008

Movie Website Updates for July 29 - August 4, 2007

August 5th, 2007

Another big list of movie sites, but not much in the way of top-notch entries. For a movie site to be an award winner, I expect it to have all of the usual features, extras like clips, something interactive like a game, and background sound and animation. The film that best exemplifies that criteria is Stardust - Official Site, which is the winner of the Weekly Website Award. More...
